About Training Mate
Training Mate is not another boutique gym. It’s a social fitness movement built around a simple formula: 51% social, 49% fitness. Members come for fun, high energy 45 minute HIIT workouts and stay for the friendships, events, coaches, and community that make working out feel less like a chore and more like something they actually look forward to.
Born in Australia and refined in Los Angeles, Training Mate has built a cult like following with 300,000+ five star reviews, celebrity fans, major press coverage, and collaborations with premium brands including lululemon and Athleta. The concept pairs an elevated brand with centralized programming, recurring membership revenue, streamlined operations, and strong unit economics. For franchisees, it’s an opportunity to own more than a fitness studio. It’s a highly differentiated brand built around connection, retention, and creating a community people genuinely want to belong to.

Training & Support
At Training Mate, franchisees aren’t simply handed a logo and wished good luck. The same coaching mentality used with members extends to franchise owners.
The franchise system combines thorough initial training, ongoing support, established operating systems, and years of fitness industry experience. Centralized workout programming means franchisees don’t have to continually create classes themselves, helping maintain a consistent Training Mate experience across locations.
Support includes:
- Comprehensive initial franchise training
- Centralized workout programming
- Studio development and launch guidance
- Coach and team development
- Brand and marketing resources
- Membership growth and retention strategies
- Operational systems and best practices
- Ongoing franchisor guidance
The goal is to give franchisees the tools and support to build both a strong business and the distinctive community that makes Training Mate different.
History
Training Mate was born on the shores of Australia, tested on the rugby field, and refined in Los Angeles.
When former professional rugby player Luke Milton retired, he realized what he missed most wasn’t the game. It was the team, camaraderie, and mateship. Unable to find that same feeling in traditional fitness, he decided to build it himself. Armed with an idea, a 2,500 square foot space, and, in true Aussie fashion, a Speedo, Luke opened the first Training Mate studio in West Hollywood in 2013.
His philosophy was simple: fitness should be fun, coaches should be approachable, and everyone should feel capable of living a healthier life. That formula helped turn Training Mate into a loved fitness movement and celebrity favorite. Luke later appeared as a celebrity trainer on all three seasons of Revenge Body with Khloé Kardashian, while Training Mate built a following that includes some of Hollywood’s biggest names.
