As one of the most rapidly-growing franchises in the midscale lodging segment, La Quinta has had noticeable success in economy, leisure and business hotel markets. This energetic, flexible and modern hotel chain appeals to vacation travelers and business clients with a number of amenities, such as the brand’s famous pillowtop mattresses, and attractive aesthetics. At the same time, an accessible price point gives La Quinta a broad appeal.

La Quinta and its franchisees currently own approximately 900 hotels throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Since the 2018 acquisition of the brand by Wyndham Worldwide, La Quinta has international ties to other Wyndham hotels and resorts, increasing its brand recognition even more.

One of the main features of La Quinta hotels are their characteristically bright color palettes and modern, minimalist designs. This ambience is perfectly suited to vacation or leisure stays, with artistic room décor and a host of high-tech entertainment options in every room. Travelers and business clients enjoy access to free breakfast, high-speed Wi-Fi and an uber-comfy lounge area, in addition to an indoor pool, exercise facilities and picturesque open-air spaces for relaxation.

Why Choose Us?

Franchisees have quite a bit of freedom to decide the investment setup that works best, be it new hotel construction under the La Quinta name or converting existing hotel property to the brand. The distinctive hotel chain is experiencing a sort of renaissance thanks to a new prototype business model that takes the essence of what makes La Quinta unique — its spectacular flair and welcoming nature — and pairs it with improved space design to maximize owner revenue. Instead of a chair and table, for example, La Quinta draws on its unique interior style to offer visitors a comfy sofa instead.

La Quinta participates in the popular Wyndham Rewards program, which allows franchisees to benefit from increased travelers from the parent company. This allows the 53 million Wyndham Rewards program members to earn points while staying at La Quinta hotels, and La Quinta members can use their points at thousands of hotels around the world.

Projected franchise growth for La Quinta continued strong in 2018, with an estimated 250 new locations slated for approval. This makes the brand one of the hottest hotel ownership opportunities, ready to capitalize on a growing market interest in economical-yet-attractive accommodations. La Quinta is also involved in veteran franchise initiative VetFran, which means significant incentives and benefits for U.S. military personnel in franchise participation.

Ideal Candidate

The La Quinta brand may be a great fit for owners of existing hotel property looking for a high-quality conversion with excellent market appeal. Franchisees who are looking to build a new hotel also benefit from extensive assistance via the Wyndham Advantage program and its Strategic Development Team, a group of industry experts that oversees hotel construction, interior design and project management. To make the most of this forward-looking hotel brand, franchisees need to share a similar passion and excitement for modern style and technology, in addition to having sufficient liquid capital for opening costs.

The first La Quinta hotel opened in 1968 in San Antonio, Texas. Brothers Sam and Phil Barshop wanted to offer reasonably priced accommodations for people attending the 1968 World’s Fair in San Antonio. It wasn’t long before a single hotel turned into a successful chain with hundreds of locations. In 2010, a survey by Business Travel News magazine gave La Quinta the second-place spot for best hotel chain in the United States. Since the mid-2000s, La Quinta hotel numbers have increased sharply to the current count of over 900 worldwide. In 2018, La Quinta Inns & Suites was purchased by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, adding it to a portfolio that includes other successful brands such as Marriot International, Hilton Hotels and Ramada Worldwide.
