History

The company started out as Golden Fried Chicken, opening at a location in San Marcos, Texas, in 1967. From its beginning, the company's founder intended it to operate as an example of the best a franchise company could be. The company enjoyed substantial growth; when it was sold in 1982, it had 39 locations open in various Texas cities.

In 1989, an investment group bought the company – a move supported by its franchisees. In the following years, it expanded to over 150 restaurants. In 1993, the company implemented some major changes, including the new name of Golden Chick. Other improvements consisted of an updated restaurant design and an expanded menu.

Today, the Golden Chick menu still features its original fried chicken, tenders and roast chicken. It marked its 50th anniversary in 2017. Although it has expanded internationally, its values include preserving its Texas principles of tasty food and friendly service.
