This is the chance to purchase a world class Fast Tool Servo (FTS) technology that can be used in conjunction with an ultra-precision multi-axis lathe to manufacture rotationally non-symmetric surfaces of unequalled quality. Our FTS employs fully-constrained air bearing technology and uses a counter balance carriage as the reaction force to the tool carriage. The use of the counter balance reaction force eliminates any forces that may affect the machine that the FTS is mounted to. The FTS utilizes differential position feedback to position both the tool and counter balance carriages and in the case of the tool carriage, the position sensors are placed along the center of actuation minimizing any Abbe offset errors. The carriages are driven by precision voice coil motors. The FTS has a stroke of 1000um @ 100Hz (at 250um of stroke the frequency is approximately 200Hz and at 110um of stroke the frequency is approximately 300 Hz), a maximum acceleration of 200m/s^2 and a system bandwidth of 1.0kHz. The FTS is 210.0mm long, 63.5mm wide and 112.0mm high (one of the smallest, ultra high performance FTSs on the market) and is mounted via a T-Slot in the tooling plate on the machine. The FTS itself weighs 2.5kg. It can be configured with a dual tool nose option where each tool has independent coarse and fine adjust. This allows for a coarse cutting tool and finish cutting tool to be toolset prior to cutting allowing for the part to be finished in the setup. The control electronics are housed in an electronics module/power distribution module. Closed Loop Servo control is accomplished via our own unique design servo control boards. The FTS electronics module accepts an analog voltage (±10VDC) command input and positions a work cutting tool (usually a diamond tool of varying configuration) in response to this command. This allows any machine controller capable of generating such an analog output to interface with our electronics. The input gain of the system can be changed to accommodate a differential input or single ended input. The fault circuitry includes low air fault, travel limit fault and current limit fault. A contact closure available for monitoring by the host machine, indicates that there is power to the electronics, all faults are cleared and the FTS is enabled. The FTS can produce surfaces of rotation with extremely fine surface finish (on the order of 5nm Ra) and typical form accuracies of 0.6um P-V. When held at a commanded position of zero (0), surface finishes of 1 to 2 nanometers are achievable. Complex surfaces such as lenslet arrays and torics (or any complex surface that falls within the physical constraints of the FTS, e.g. stroke and acceleration) can be produced using the FTS. There are several variations to include a 500um FTS and an RJ45 input electronics module. There is a complete set of manufacturing drawings, specifications, procedures, trouble shooting guides, vendor lists, etc. Each system is individually tuned, verified and the data archived for the purpose of constant product improvement. Units that are returned for repair are compared to the "as shipped" data for initial evaluation and subsequent repair. A total of 283 systems have been sold to date of varying configurations.
