Hans Luetkemeier Jewelry Store in Metairie

Metairie, LA

Hans Luetkemeier and Sons (H.L.A.S., Inc.) is one of the most famous local jewelry stores in New Orleans. They are estimated to have about $735,000 in inventory, which is about $1.5MM to $2.5MM in retail value. Half of HLAS revenue comes from services including reproductions (in silver, gold, or platinum), repairs of jewelry and different metal objects, and custom items (with or without molds). HLAS has many local repeat customers, both individuals and larger corporate jewelry stores who contract out their services. It's not surprising, especially considering its location where the nearest traffic counter (at 17th and Causeway) reports +60,000 cars per day, that a traffic counter at HLAS (at 17th and Severn) could reasonably expect to do at least 20-30,000 cars per day. Hans Luetkemeier, the founder, has been working with precious metals and jewels since he was a 14-year-old-boy, growing up in Sennelager, a small German town near Frankfort. His apprenticeship lasted 3.5 years, and it was quite demanding. Before attaining the rank of "master", Hans spent 7 years working in shops around Germany, honing his skills and applying what he learned. After immigrating to the United States, Hans has been operating HLAS from his home in New Orleans since 1965. The first store was opened in the late 1960s in the French Quarter and another location was opened in Metairie, when HLAS was formally incorporated in 1988. In the early 1990s, Hans closed his retail locations in order to concentrate on a new endeavor, wholesale jewelry shows. By the mid to late '90s the company was doing over 40 shows a year in more than 15 cities across the country. In 1999, HLAS reopened at their current store location in Metairie. The business boasts an eclectic mix of antique, estate, modern and custom-designed jewelry. The company sells and manufactures its own line of slides and slide bracelets. HLAS also carries many sterling and "fun" jewelry pieces to fit any budget. In addition, the store carries crystal, sterling, and pewter gifts and can match almost any old or new sterling flatware pattern. Another specialty is complete sterling or silver-plated repair and restoration. Other services include jewelry repair and appraising. -------------------- The valuation does not take cash flow, FF&E, or the goodwill of the name of the business into consideration; those aspects are a bonus to the buyer. The valuation is a pure asset valuation of the jewelry (diamonds, gold, silver) at wholesale value. Square footage is also to be verified by buyer.
