Overview

Travelodge is one of the lodging brands owned by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Inc. This corporation owns a variety of hotel brands in several different categories, including "value," "upscale," and "extended stay." The Travelodge brand falls under the "value" category in the United States. In Canada, the brand falls under the "midscale" sector of the lodging industry.

Travelodge (also referred to as "Travelodge by Wyndham") hotels cater to leisure travelers looking for affordable accommodations in North America. Hotels range in size from 40 to 100 rooms and generally offer amenities such as pools, free high-speed internet access, and included continental breakfast. Most are located close to National Parks and similar attractions. The brand is positioned as "your basecamp for adventure," with key watchwords being "friendly" and "reliable."

Why Choose Us?

The Travelodge brand is part of the WHR corporation, which owns over 20 successful lodging brands in 82 countries. A Travelodge franchise could offer an entrepreneur the chance to succeed in the competitive hospitality industry with support from a large corporation with a well-known guest rewards program (Wyndham Rewards). The franchisor indicates Travelodge boasts 65% brand awareness. A Travelodge franchise could be a good choice for those wishing to operate a business in the North American hospitality industry.

Ideal Candidate

Ideal candidates for a Travelodge franchise would have the desire and financial resources to invest in a conversion or new-construction hotel. Potential franchisees should be able to provide capital or secure financing for the total investment amount, which is over $1,000,000 in most cases.

History

The Travelodge brand began in 1940 in California with the goal of providing travelers with affordable accommodations in a laid-back atmosphere. The franchisor for Travelodge began as a Delaware corporation called Bear Acquisition Corp., which was incorporated in January 1996. The name was changed to Travelodge Hotels, Inc. a couple weeks after incorporation.

Travelodge Hotels, Inc. is a subsidiary of Wyndham Hotel Group, LLC, which is in turn owned by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Inc. This corporation is commonly referred to as WHR. It was created in 2018 during a restructuring of the Wyndham Worldwide Corporation that separated the hotel business from the timeshare business. Currently, Wyndham Hotel Group serves as the franchisor for Travelodge, and it owns several other franchising subsidiaries.

Training And Support

Mandatory training for the general manager occurs within the franchisor's Hospitality Management Program. The franchisor may require training for employees in other designated positions. Franchisees may also receive training in the form of online courses on customer service, quality assurance, facility operations, and other relevant topics.
