Bring Tolbert’s Restaurant & Chili Parlor to your hometown!

A Unique Business Opportunity

Tolbert’s is a licensing opportunity, rather than a franchise. This licensing format allows local, community-based entrepreneurs to capitalize on an iconic Texas brand with a rich heritage. Unlike typical restaurant franchise opportunities, the Tolbert’s license offers owners the flexibility to incorporate a “personality” representative of their community into the brand. As a licensee, you will gain instant access to "trade secrets" and proven "know-how" to run this successful business model.

The Brand

  • 40-year history of success as a true Texas brand
  • Deep and undeniable Texas heritage
  • Natural fit for historic downtown centers
  • Direct tie to the Original Terlingua International Chili Festival
  • Signature dishes including Tolbert’s world-famous Bowl of Red
  • 10 successive years of sales growth

The Opportunity

  • Licensed ownership irrevocable once licensing fee is paid in full
  • Flexibility and Freedom

History of an Iconic Brand

Passion for food, live music and an atmosphere that is distinctly Texas creates a gathering place for all to enjoy.

Frank X. Tolbert’s life-long passion for chili inspired him to write his world-famous book, A Bowl of Red, 50 years ago. In 1967, he founded the Terlingua Championship Chili Cook-Off and a decade later joined forces with son Frank 2 and opened Tolbert’s Chili Parlor.

Although the Dallas location developed an impressive reputation, the popularity of the brand exploded when Tolbert’s daughter Kathleen and husband Paul Ryan selected Grapevine’s historic Main Street as the new home of Tolbert’s in 2006. Sales sky-rocketed and Tolbert’s became the subject of magazine articles, newspaper features, and television shows, creating tremendous exposure both within the region and outside of the state of Texas. Forty years later, Tolbert’s still serves one of the best-known chili recipes in the United States: Frank’s Bowl of Red
