Welcome and thank you for reviewing our BizBuySell profile, and I would like to share a short overview of my business background, work experience and core beliefs to help you better understand how we can help you in successfully Selling or Buying a business.

First and foremost, I believe it is important to point out, being a Business Broker is not just theory for me. I have personally owned, operated and successfully sold three businesses over the past 35 years, and in the past decade I have assisted in the successful sale of over 100 businesses here in Arizona, and worked with many more entrepreneurs in an array of industry sectors.

Why is this important... because I have been in the trenches and understand the challenges associated with starting, building, managing, and successfully selling a business. In addition, as an active Arizona Business Broker, I've had a unique opportunity to see behind the curtain of many different types of businesses. As a result, what I've discovered - for a small business there are five common areas that will determine a Buyer's interest, their willingness to make an offer, the offer price, financial terms of sale, and the seller's involvement after the sale.

Over the years, I have owned a retail operation that specialized in ceiling fans, lighting and home accessory items. This was founded In the early days of the Phoenix expansion when home builders were putting up 30,000 to 40,000 new homes every year and before Home Depot and Loews enter the market-place. Needless to say - they were good times. As we grew, the retail operation opened doors and gave birth to a regional distribution company that sold to and serviced commercial apartment contractors, condo projects and large home builders with private labeled products imported directly from overseas manufacturers.

As Home Depot entered the market, both business were sold to a strategic buyer in late 1992

The next venture was manufacturing company that produced home furnishings, specializing in home entertainment and home theater furnishings as the TV market was shifting to Big Screens. Over 17 years, this business grew to employ over 200 people, developed a nationwide sales channel of professional manufactures reps that serviced over 1,500 Nationally Branded Retailers throughout the United States, Canada, and to a lesser extent Mexico. The business developed many long term relationships and trusted partnerships with valued customers

Due to the changing tide from domestic to imported goods coming in from China and other countries, the decision to sell was made in late 2004 and the business went on the market. In mid 2005 a letter of intent was accepted and the business was successfully sold to a group of private equity investors in early 2006. As a point of reference, at that time the business generated top line annual revenue of approx $ 20 million.

This first hand experience in working with well funded and experienced investors has proven invaluable. Specifically, as it relates to the business brokerage world for a few reasons. First and foremost this group was extremely thorough in their investigation of all aspects of the business, from recurring revenue, cost of labor, duties of employees, manufacturing systems and processes, net adjusted operating cash flow, profitability compared to industry standards, and the list goes on and on.

Living through the systematic dissection of the marketing, sales, operational, and financial aspects of the business provides great insight for assisting clients better prepare their businesses for sale or assist buyers through the inspection and due diligence process.
