Business Description

Slake Your Thirst with Vermont Switchel

This is a turn-key operation with all major phases of the business well established and fully implemented. The current production takes place at a co-packing manufacturing facility which has a complete wet kitchen set up, warehousing and distribtuion with capacity for increased production. It is also a highly mobile business and can be run from anywhere be it your kitchen, your manufacturing facility, or at a co-packer.

The Vermont Switchel Company brand is well established and has been featured in national publications such as Bon Appetit and American Airlines Magazine. The high-quality products have gained accolades across the board from Yankee Magazine Editors Choice to the Good Food Foundation and Mercantile. There is plenty of excitement for Vermont Switchel as the craft beverage industry continues to challenge the shelf space historically dominated by multinational sodas companies.

Not only is Vermont Switchel an extraordinary beverage, it has a terrific story that connects a century old recipe with the modern day palate. Switchel, also known as "haymakers punch" or "ginger water", was originally mixed up in farmhouse kitchens across New England to keep farmers and field crews hydrated while bringing in the hay to feed their cows through the long winters.

My odyssey with switchel began 30 years ago when a relative mixed up a batch of "grampy's switchel recipe" and it was love at first sip. I clearly recall the reaction I had to my first glass of switchel saying "someday I am going to bottle this and share it with the world!". Well two kids and two careers later I made good on that promise and launched the Vermont Switchel Company; the first commercial switchel in the country. With a few modifications to the original recipe and after thousands of samples the switchel works was open for business.

The clean ingredients, hydration benefits, and unexpectedly delightful flavour were all wonderful but it was the connection to our agrarian heritage that made it such a compelling factor in the formation of the company.

Switchel is a hybrid in the beverage industry which is what makes it such a wonderful product to sell. It fits into many different catergories that its placement is practically guaranteed. We sell to small "mom-and-pops", through the natural channels/coops, large events, to grab-and-go coolers in c-stores, on-line, and through historical catalogs and shops.

This has been nothing short of a fabulous journey of production, growth, featured events and winning a few friends and awards along the way! We would love to see this tremendously popular company continue and are flexible on terms of sale.
