Business Description

Once Upon A Child has been providing Reno families with a fun and convenient place to buy and sell gently-used kids stuff for over 20 years. The current owner has quadrupled sales in just six years and is trending toward another double-digit increase this year. This location has a proven sales record built around a strong marketing and advertising presence with a very established customer base. The staff is well trained and experienced. The location is the best in Reno. All of this adds up to a wonderful opportunity for a buyer.

Once Upon A Child offers a truly unique retail franchise opportunity as the leading children’s resale store of its kind -- focusing on the buying and selling of high- quality, new and gently used apparel, toys, baby equipment and furniture for children at affordable, family-friendly prices.

We are the largest national chain that specializes in reselling clothing and other items for children from infants through tweens. With over 280 store locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, we out-number Children’s Orchard® and Kid to Kid® more than 3 to 1! Unlike our competitors, we don’t believe in consigning and we pay $$$ on the spot! We also buy all seasons – all the time, with no appointment necessary.

There is an amazing amount of nearly-new clothing, toys, baby gear and more hidden in every family’s home, which presents fantastic opportunities for both franchise owners and customers alike. Making the decision to be your own boss and be in control of your future is an exciting adventure, and we appreciate being considered in your business search.

If you're looking for an exciting and fun business you can step into and hit the ground running, Once Upon A Child in Reno is worth checking out!

This South Reno location is in Del Monte Plaza with Whole Foods, Pier One, Sierra Trading Post and Macy's Home Store. The store occupies 4,200 square foot space with very attractive rent and is leased through July of 2015 with a 5 year option. This is a highly desirable center with only one vacant space. The center has ample parking, high visibility and major freeway and highway access from all points. There is no better location in Reno! While the store moved to this center four years ago, Once Upon A Child first opened in the market in 1993 so there's tremendous history in this market.
Reno has some competition but all of it is viewed as a positive not a negative. There are no resale stores specifically catering to children however there are some smaller general merchandise resale shops and larger consignment sale companies in the area. In many cases these stores actually turn people on to Once Upon A Child by exposing potential customers to the resale culture. The smaller shops are much more restrictive in what they buy and can be inconsistent in what they pay for items. The staff at Once Upon A Child are well trained at buying and the point of sale system keeps the prices consistent. This store has a good relationship with the other resale stores in town and offers great customer service by referring business back and forth in ages or categories they don't carry.
Growth & Expansion:
Many opportunities exist for expansion in both the physical space and the growth of sales. From a sales perspective, a hands-on owner focused only on this location will have an immediate impact on sales. Physical expansion is not required but it is a possibility.
Support & Training:
Training required and provided by franchisor after purchase of store is completed. On-going franchisor support includes advertising, marketing, merchandising, inventory and financial management. Buying group available for new product purchases. Additional training and education opportunities available at the annual franchisee conference and trade shows. In store support through Field Operations Managers.
