Business Description

Priced to help the next owner succeed ... is that you?

We are a small millwork shop that has everything you need to make nearly anything out of wood. Once part of a larger lumber operation, we purchased this piece of the business and have focused on serving customers with original flooring, trim, butcherblock tops, furniture, doors, tables, etc. We can do things lumberyards and big box stores can't (or won't).

The right person for this business appreciates the beauty of wood, has the time (and isn't afraid) to cultivate relationships with builders and explain Walton Woods value proposition. A great candidate would be someone who is looking for a second career and might have a pension (retired firefighter, police officer, military, teacher, etc.) or some other form of income and can invest in the business.

The business is priced mostly on the equipment (everything is negotiable). We continue to get work and grow, but it needs someone who can be out regularly talking to builders and cultivating relationships. There is definitely potential to grow the business into a nice little profit center - but it will take work. We want to see it succeed with the right person.

Primary equipment: Straight line and Table saws, industrial planer, 5 head molder, dust collection equipment, band saw and compressor - see attached PDF. Business continues to operate and grow. We moved locations about 2 years ago and have done the hard work of reestablishing the business. Utilities are included in lease payment. Equipment could be moved if new owner has their own facility. Landlord has agreed to release us from our lease and negotiate with new owner if they desire to stay in the current location.
We are very competitive on architectural millwork (i.e. trim, base, case, flooring, stairs, etc.) and offer custom furniture, entryway and garage doors. We are the only custom millwork facility in the Jackson and surrounding area. Local retail competition is big box and local lumberyards (though we don't really market to the general public). Main contractor competitor is Goodrich Brothers (Pewamo, MI). We are not a cabinet shop, but this could be a great bolt on acquisition for one, allowing it to expand their product offering.
Growth & Expansion:
We have a relationship with a reclaimed wood supplier and manufacture products with his wood. There are more people like him needing craftsmen to produce goods. There are also opportunities to provide cabinet makers and other manufacturers with dimensioned wood according to their specific needs. We also have a few designs for manufactured goods to sell retail. One other opportunity we haven't explored is selling trim through bidding sites (i.e. Dodge, CMD Group). Historical rehab work is also a great opportunity in east Michigan (Ann Arbor/Detroit).
No seller financing.
Support & Training:
Our employee would like to stay with the right owner and is willing to educate and train - he is a wealth of knowledge and loves what he does. I will also be available and share everything I've learned to help you succeed.
Reason for Selling:
Owners have other jobs and cannot give it the attention it needs to thrive.
