Business Description

This company is offering a portfolio of artificial intelligence (AI) assets that use natural language processing (NLP), natural language generation (NLG), machine learning (ML) and machine translation (MT) technologies to support language simplification, text mining and translation initiatives. Clients have included many Fortune 1000 and other prominent global corporations in a broad array of manufacturing and service industries, as well as government agencies.

The centerpiece of the portfolio is a controlled language tool that applies 16,000 AI rules to perform NLP analyses. The results are improved clarity, readability, standardization, and translatability.

The software includes these AI technologies: morphological analysis, text disambiguation, tokenization, POS tagging, named entity detection, chunking, parsing, semantic role labeling, predictive analysis, text annotation, language determination by context, text mining, audio mining and lexicon management.

Complex XML, SGML and HTML files are analyzed at a rate of less than a second per page. Users can creative custom dictionaries containing industry and company-specific terminology.

Many clients operate in industries that must convey complex technical information to employees and customers, e.g., heavy machinery, software, oil and gas, medical device, maritime, pharmaceutical, semiconductors, banking and insurance.
During the past 20+ years, clients from over 100 countries have used these tools in a wide range of applications. A few examples:

Risk Management and Compliance

Aerospace manufacturers and airlines use the tools to comply with ASD-STE100 Simplified Technical English and Aviation English (ICAO), which are aimed at maximizing comprehension by personnel in 150 countries with limited English proficiency (LEP) who operate their mission-critical equipment. Manufacturers of land and sea vehicles must also comply with Simplified Technical English.

Manufacturers in other industries use the software to eliminate vague and ambiguous language in operations and maintenance manuals that could cause equipment to be misused in a manner that causes harm, exposing them to “failure to warn” liability and substantial monetary damages.

Customer Service

The US Plain Writing Act of 2010 mandates the use of plain English by all federal executive agencies. The Environmental Protection Agency has used the software to improve the clarity of and compliance with its regulations. In the private sector, the insurance industry and legal profession have become strong proponents of plain writing to communicate with their clients. Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia have adopted plain writing policies to address the comprehension needs of their increasingly diverse populations.

Corporations and government agencies that operate call centers use the AI tools to critique scripts and dialogs to remove jargon, idioms and pretentious language. As a result, agents are more productive because they can respond to callers’ inquiries in less time, thereby facilitating labor cost savings. Another important benefit is an increase in customer satisfaction. The software can also decrease call center interactions through self-service chatbots.

International Business

Many global financial services and manufacturing companies have used the controlled language software to improve the clarity and accuracy of their English procedural documentation, dealer communications, engineering specifications and operator instructions. The company’s software was then used to translate the resultant documentation from English to foreign languages.

These AI tools are ready to modify and deploy in the areas of risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, procedural documentation, human factors engineering and customer experience. The estimated time to build an AI engine is seven years, but these assets can be operational in 30 days.
