1 Green Planet Computer and Electronics Recycling
Established and Extremely Lucrative E-Cycling Operation
Summary of Specifics: 1 Green Planet is a King County, Washington based company focused primarily on recycling computers and other electronics for large businesses. It serves the recycling needs of smaller businesses and individual consumers as well. It re-sells a diverse array of products on the retail market and on eBay. The Company serves major companies in the greater Seattle Metropolitan Area that include Amazon, Microsoft, Nordstrom, Starbucks, Virginia Mason Healthcare, Fred Hutch (Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center) and many others. 1 Green Planet also serves municipalities, school districts and other organizations and enjoys numerous long-term relationships. The Company was founded in 2009 by its present owner and has enjoyed profitability since its inception. It is organized and registered as an S corporation in Washington State. The owner is retiring and will jointly develop an appropriate transition plan for the new owner. The Company is offered for $1,475,000 in the form of an asset sale that includes all warehouse inventories and the vehicle fleet.
Summary about the Industry: The electronics recycling business is becoming increasingly important as volumes of e-waste continue to grow, setting the stage for the growth of that industry. The huge growth of consumer electronics has led to an ever-expanding surge of end-of-life electronics that must be recycled. More than just trash, this material can be an environmental and health hazard. It also offers value in terms of scrap rare earth metals, recycled plastics and spare parts. With the average life of a computer being 18 to 24 months and new digital products being developed seemingly by the nanosecond, electronics recycling is now the fastest growing segment of the recycling industry.
Approximately 4.4 million tons of electronic scrap are processed in the U.S. during 2011, according to ISRI - the Institute of Recycling Industries. Among its 1,600 total members, this association represents the interests of about 350 e-recyclers around the country. The industry contributes $20 billion annually to the U.S. economy and directly employs over 45,000 people. Electronics recycling “is absolutely a growth industry,” according to Lauren Roman, Business Director for e-Stewards, a recycler certification program launched in 2010 by the Seattle-based Basel Action Network, and backed by business and environmental groups alike. Computer recycling, electronic recycling or e-waste recycling is the disassembly and separation of components and raw materials of waste electronics. Although the procedures of re-use, donation and repair are not strictly recycling, they are other common sustainable ways to dispose of IT waste. In 2009, 38% of computers and a quarter of total electronic waste was recycled in the United States, 5% and 3% up from 3 years prior respectively. Since its inception in the early 1990s, more and more devices are recycled worldwide due to increased awareness and investment. Electronic recycling occurs primarily in order to recover valuable rare earth metals and precious metals (gold, silver, platinum, and palladium), which are in short supply, as well as plastics and metals. These are resold or used in new devices after purification, in effect creating a circular economy. Recycling is considered environmentally friendly because it prevents hazardous waste, including heavy metals and carcinogens, from entering the atmosphere, landfill or waterways. While electronics consist a small fraction of total waste generated, they are far more dangerous. There is stringent legislation designed to enforce and encourage the sustainable disposal of appliances, the most notable being the United States National Computer Recycling Act.
Specialty Gift store
Made In Washington, Inc. The original Made In Washington
I have changed the pricing structure for the sale of the business. The price change is to reflect the increase in inventory at this time of year. I am preparing for the Holiday Season and that requires a large increase in inventory required to meet the large increase in sales volume. The new price does not include the value of inventory. That amount will be calculated at the time of the sale, and added to the $50,00 cost of the business.
Made In Washington was started in 1981. I purchased it in 1996. I call it Made In Washington and the Northwest, because of the large volume of Huckleberry products we sell. There are four main types of products: Crafts, Food, shirts (tee shirts and sweat shirts) and souvenirs. The Crafts, Food (lots of smoked salmon too), and shirts each account for approx. 1/3 of the income with souvenirs approx. 10%
The Gross Income as well as my income from the business varies from year to year partly based on the overall economy and partly based on one's grasp on the Cost Of Goods Sold.
The inventory also varies, mostly based on the time of year. By the end of October it is colse to the high, and early in January it is at it's lowest.
The store is located in Spokane's Downtown Mall.
I have 4 part time employees. The store is easily operated by one employee most of the year, until the Christmas Season, and Saturday's during the Summer. Our customers are visitors from out of town, here to visit family, or attending a convention, or local folks going on a trip and wanting to take something from the Northwest back home, or sending something to family or business associates.
We have an online store. Most of that business is at Christmas. The
online part of the business could be expanded with help from a younger person. :) Also, if I were younger I would open a second and or third store in North Spokane and/ or The Spokane Valley.
