Award Winning Online Guitar / Music Instrument Website for Sale
Chittenden County, VT
After six wild years in the Musical Instruments industry, MusicStorelive.com owners Jeff Santoro and Ben Werlin are looking to exit. While we’ve greatly enjoyed being a vital part of the industry, we have another venture that’s on a tremendous growth curve, that needs our focus. We entered the business fully financially leveraged and have quickly grown our revenues to over $5MM. We’ve invested deeply and worked tirelessly over these years to build a business capable of delivering massive sales and profits for a buyer that can come in well capitalized to finance the inventory. This buyer will be in a position to maximize profits, take advantage of manufacturer quick pays, and leverage the business model that we’ve created to supercharge their existing MI business.
MusicStoreLive, LLC (MSL) is a partnership that is taxed as an S-Corp.
History of the Company
Formed in late 2010, MSL was founded on the idea that we could change the way guitars and gear were sold online. We had a big vision to “bring the guitar shop to your living room” with sexy images, vivid descriptions that feature a “player’s perspective”, video demos, a stellar sales and customer service experience.
We began by specializing in used & vintage instruments, and shifted over to a retail model between 2012-2013. The company grew very quickly - with sales of $1.25MM in 2011, $2.5MM in 2012, and $5.7MM in 2013. However, we hit a cash flow wall in late 2013 when we didn’t get the next bank loan we expected to obtain. Our growth halted with these challenges, as we did $5.6MM in 2014, and $4.6MM in 2015, also due to lower inventory on hand. Despite improved sales results (we’ve cleared $2.4MM through Q2 ‘16), that cash flow wall has continued to affect us, and in late June ‘16, we decided it was time to exit the business and focus on our other opportunity.
Over the past few years we have been recognized a number of times for our innovative approach to the business. Our accolades include:
2013 Vermont Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award
2014 NAMM Best Emerging Dealer Award
2014 NAMM Best Sales & Marketing Promotion Award (for our 2013 Gold Rush Promo)
2014 NAMM Top 100 Dealer Award
2015 NAMM Top 100 Dealer Award

What we offer
We have invested an immense amount of time, labor, and cash into building a powerful and robust MI sales machine. It drives 571,449 visits of yearly web traffic, and roughly $400k in monthly gross receipts. We have a loyal following - 111,000 email list subscribers, 19,000 youtube subscribers with more than 9 million views, and 13,000+ facebook likers. Another MI dealer with a solid business in place, and a dependable base of employees can take advantage of our website and infrastructure to supercharge growth.
Our backend infrastructure allows us to seamlessly integrate our various ecommerce channels - eBay, Amazon, Reverb, and our website, all through one inventory management platform. Our SEO is state-of-the-art, and we do work with a data-driven SEM (search engine marketing) firm that helps us keep our ad spend low and results high.
We’ve had a full time web developer with us since 2012, which has allowed us to integrate the latest technologies into our arsenal.
