History of the Company
Formed in late 2010, MSL was founded on the idea that we could change the way guitars and gear were sold online. We had a big vision to “bring the guitar shop to your living room” with sexy images, vivid descriptions that feature a “player’s perspective”, video demos, a stellar sales and customer service experience.
We began by specializing in used & vintage instruments, and shifted over to a retail model between 2012-2013. The company grew very quickly - with sales of $1.25MM in 2011, $2.5MM in 2012, and $5.7MM in 2013. However, we hit a cash flow wall in late 2013 when we didn’t get the next bank loan we expected to obtain. Our growth halted with these challenges, as we did $5.6MM in 2014, and $4.6MM in 2015, also due to lower inventory on hand. Despite improved sales results (we’ve cleared $2.4MM through Q2 ‘16), that cash flow wall has continued to affect us, and in late June ‘16, we decided it was time to exit the business and focus on our other opportunity.
