Excellent Breakfast-Lunch Biz
Breakfast-Lunch Business: Long standing with an Excellent reputation. It is Common to have customers waiting in line, sometimes out the door. Great location on a heavily traveled road and in a busy plaza. Uncommonly high profit level. Business has been well managed. Staff of usually 6 FT, plus 2 Owners. Cashflow after all expenses could permit an Owner who wants to be largely absentee, to own and operate the business with a quality manager. It also would be a good fit for a Buyer who already has one or more other businesses. Excellent opportunity for a couple working together or a working family. Both delivery and take out. Owner currently turns down new delivery requests, due to being too busy. A VERY popular eating place.
The owner very strongly prefers a Buyer who has owned a food-restaurant type business or at least has experience with "hands-on" food production and management experience.
There is a significant amount of competition in their "market area." Nevertheless, they have always done well and kept in front of the competition by good and rapid service, quality food, a comfortable atmosphere and competitive pricing.
Buyers sometimes ask if there is a chef or cook who would stay with a new Owner. First, this is not the sort of diner that would justify a chef. This is a typical breakfast-lunch, with a counter, tables, booths, a grill, coffee maker, etc. behind the counter. It’s short-order style, which anyone with some basic cooking knowledge can learn, BUT simply “knowing how to cook,” isn’t enough. It is important to have experience with "hands-on" food production and management, understanding the concept of "short-order," cooking, which means - get the order - get it done - get it to the customer. Peak times can be intense. Customers in a breakfast-lunch business commonly value taking a minimal time to eat their breakfast or lunch.
They have 5 or 6 staff and some of them work on the grill, but the Owner does the majority of managing the process. There are no "complex," meals to fix. Nothing takes very long, which is the appeal of such a business. Customers want to get in, eat and get out. It isn't like dinner restaurants, where customers may sit and chat for an hour or two.
On the "Reality," side - it should be said, this is the type of business where staff do not make it their "life's work." An owner must be prepared to deal with staff turn-over, training and supervision. It is the nature of the industry. Every now and then you come across a "keeper," who will stay with it and with you for years.
There is a substantial profit available to be made from this business, but a Buyer needs to expect to put in a lot of hours and days, unless they are in a position to hire a quality manager.
Nice hours 6:00 am - 3:30 6 days and 7:00 am - 3:30 Sundays. No night hours. A Buyer can own a restaurant business AND have a personal & family life. Seller is retiring and moving out of state to a home purchased through income from this business.
