Buying a business requires research

If you want to buy a business in the Phoenix metro area, you likely won’t pay as much as you would in other areas of the country.

According to BizBuySell.com, the median asking price for businesses for sale in the Phoenix area is $225,000. That figure is based on 1,299 area businesses that are listed at BizBuySell.com. That included listings from local business brokers as well as “for sale by owner” listings, the Web site said.

The comparable national average figure is $250,000, according to the Web site.

The listed businesses averaged about $315,246 in annual revenue while average cash flow, - the money that comes out of the business – is $83,000.

Mike Handelsman, general manager of BizBuySell.com, said an increasing number of businesses are for sale in the area. As many baby boomers who own businesses move closer to retirement, he expects to see more businesses for sale, which will likely put downward pressure on prices.
