Ideation Ventures was founded in 2005 by John Gustafson. The mission of Ideation Ventures is provide unique services to assist the managers and investors of private, high growth and middle market companies with the planning and execution of strategic transactions.
These services are based on our founder's experience from all sides of the "deal table", including assisting in the management of two early stage venture capital funds, running a holding company focused on healthcare technology, and serving as CEO of an operating company acquired by a billion-dollar publicly traded firm. These experiences covered the information technology, healthcare, manufacturing, distribution, financial services, real estate, and transaction processing industries. In addition to dozens of venture financing rounds, his portfolio companies underwent numerous liquidity events - ranging from public offerings to acquisitions by public corporations and orderly liquidations of underperforming assets.
This business operates in a similar manner to “club” type retail sales, but a major advantage, this business does not hold the inventory investment held by most retailer businesses. This company manages the trading of member owned merchandise and/or services between member businesses. They then use trade credits instead of cash to do business with each other or other members. The company’s system and tools allow business owners access to a large inventory of products and services of other businesses to exchange for their own goods or services or to bank their debits and credits for future exchanges.
This cash business generates revenue through initial membership fees, renewal membership fees, and through commissions earned on each trade.
A key role of the owner and the staff of this exchange company is communication by e-news or telephone to inform and encourage “purchase” of products or services currently being promoted.
To take the company to the next level a “shopping cart” could be added to the existing company website to allow trades 24/7 without direct member communication.
Another key role of management is to gain new members by contacting additional non-member business owners who want to expand their revenue by trading their products or services to other members. This business is recession proof. A member can trade for needed products even when cash is tight.
Member business owners also trade for personal items (vacations, appliances, etc.) in addition to items needed for their business operation.
A simple administrative function using company software tracks member debits, credits and the commissions earned by the company.
