About Me

Born in 1952, Roddy grew up in North Carolina and attended school there. He is a 1973 graduate of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he earned a BA degree in Political Science, having attended college on a full academic scholarship. Roddy is a veteran of the United States Navy where he served honorably on active duty for 12 years - 10 as an officer - and earned two Letters of Commendation. Aboard ship during 3 major deployments overseas and throughout his 12-year tour of service, Mr. Starr studied business when off duty. He resigned from the Navy in early 1990 after rising through the ranks and attaining the rank of Lieutenant (03), and just shortly after completing all requirements for the MBA degree at National University in San Diego, California. February, 1991 Mr. Starr started his own business on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California assisting small business owners by providing them the following services: -Management Consulting -Business Plans -Marketing Plans -Grant/Loan Proposals -Business Proposals -Product Introductions/Placements. Not all inclusive, the following are examples of financial and business consulting areas covered in detail with business owners: net present value of a project; future value; financial forecasting; working capital; liquidity ratio analysis; leverage ratio analysis; activity ratio analysis; profitability ratio analysis; financial statement analysis; four depreciation methodologies; the cost of capital; inventory management and analysis; cost analysis; and, how to arrive at maximization of wealth. Following are examples of marketing subjects covered: advertising to sales ratios, industry specific; ultimate objective of marketing; why customers buy; what reigns supreme in the marketplace; the consumer's view of advertising; factors affecting consumer behavior; components of the marketing mix; bases of business competition; the effects of advertising on consumer demand; where price competition is most evident; the factors consumption is based upon; and, the ultimate measure of marketing success. For the last 17 years while operating his own business, Mr. Starr has worked closely with small business owners on a daily basis. Mr. Starr passed the New York Stock Exchange General Securities Representative Examination (Series 7) for Financial Adviser and Uniform Combined State Law Examination (Series 66) in 2001. Mr. Starr does not serve as a Financial Adviser. Licensed as a Real Estate Salesperson in Massachusetts and serving the entire business community as a Business Broker, Mr. Starr looks forward to - and enjoys - continued service to small business owners.
