This beautiful Federal-style inn was originally built in 1807 as a home for attorney Bohan P. Field. It was built in an area known as Primrose Hill that rests above Belfast Harbor and entertains a view of the harbor and Penobscot Bay. Harbor View House is a true gem of Federal architecture that has been lovingly maintained to retain its original design and charm. Front and rear central hall doors are still accented by their original Federal-style fanlights. Authentic pumpkin pine floors guide the visitor into the common living and dining rooms, each complete with fireplace, original woodwork and shutters, and 10-foot ceilings. The living room also has an "Internet corner, " providing guests access to their email. The inn has 6 guest rooms, with two on the first floor. The size of the rooms and the spacious hallways ensure a quiet stay in each of these guest rooms. The first-floor guest rooms are at the rear of the first floor and provide a view of Belfast Harbor beyond from their private deck area. The main staircase leads up to the second floor hallway and four more guest rooms, each having private bath and fireplace. Most of these rooms have a view of the harbor as well. A large deck offers guests an outdoor area in which to relax and enjoy the view of the Harbor View House gardens and the woods beyond. The original Federal kitchen area provides the kitchen for the inn as well as living area for two of the inn s three innkeepers. USA Today has rated Belfast as one of the country s top five culturally cool small towns. Belfast is located in mid-coast Maine overlooking Penobscot Bay far from the maddening crowds of Camden and Bar Harbor, but perfectly situated between the two for day trips. The town has changed from its earlier shipbuilding and industrial identity into a cultural Mecca. In historic brick buildings you will find art galleries, antique shops, book stores and restaurants.
