From its corporate headquarters, Thrifty centralizes all travel agent commission payments and operates from its headquarters travel agent and consumer inquiry departments.

Thrifty was founded in 1958. In 1987, the company completed an initial public offering of common stock and two years later, in 1989, was acquired by Chrysler Corporation. In late 1997, Chrysler divested Thrifty in an initial public offering as part of the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group (DTAG). DTAG trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol DTG.
