What I have found out talking to people is that many of you have no clue what you are really getting into, nor are you asking the right questions. I have spent countless hours explaining, for free, what the reality of the FedEx business is. For example, folks looking to buy Line Haul have no idea what is required to do a truck file for approval, or had no clue about the FedEx driver hiring nightmare or how to navigate through it. There is NO training provided to you by FedEx. You learn as you go, and it's painful. I will work hard to convince you to NOT buy P&D routes. If you are glutton for self -inflicted punishment and want to buy Ground or Home Delivery anyway, I can open your eyes to things to prepare ahead of time for that you might not be considering. My story is that I owned 21 Home Delivery and Ground routes, 3 P&D/Linehaul Spot runs, looked into Custom Critical and decided not to, and now own 45 LineHaul runs (23 teams and 22 solos). My first day in LineHaul was the day after Thanksgiving 2013. I purchased a run from a guy in Rialto Ca who stated he would provide drivers for me until we hired our own. The day I took over, I got a call from the Senior LineHaul manager asking "Where is your truck? It was supposed to be here and hour ago." Happens to be, the seller decided he needed his drivers without communicating that fact. Would you know what to do in that situation? Would you become anxious about losing your contract? That is valuable wisdom I have gained and I would have wished I had someone to speak with back then. Brokers that are selling routes have no way of knowing or answering technical and operational questions that you have or NEED to be asking but are not. I have been in or researched every FedEx opportunity there is, and can answer all your questions. But what I have found is that it takes 30-60 minutes of my time. Going forward, if you want an uninterested, yet knowledgeable opinion on FedEx routes, I am willing to consult for you. I can provide settlement statements showing I am a contractor.
