Joan Young, President of Sunbelt of the Greater Bay Area, has been helping buyers and sellers since 1980. With franchising as Joan’s major focus at the time, it was a natural expansion to add business brokerage for her clients.

In 2000 Joan had the opportunity to start Sunbelt Business Brokerage in Santa Clara County. Since Joan had been working with and sharing office space with a leading Mergers and Acquisition company for nine years, she knew the industry well and liked the idea of having the association with a very strong business brokerage name. Sunbelt now has over 17 offices in California.

Since opening the first office in 2000, Sunbelt of the Greater Bay Area has grown with six highly competent business brokers, a highly respected office manager/IT specialist, and a creative business development director. Young has offices in San Jose and serves the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Joan Young has been successfully assisting buyers and sellers in small businesses since 1980. Her diverse business experience ranges from manufacturing and distribution to retail, food, publishing, advertising, placement services, direct and internet sales and last but not least, business and franchise consulting.

After spending a few years with Memorex Corporation and being named Manager of the Year, Joan co-founded a national publishing franchise company in Ft. Myers Florida and owned two franchises herself in Sarasota and Bradenton, Florida. Joan has been VP for three national franchise companies, and in 1990 started FRANNET of the Bay Area, Inc. (FRANNET is the largest franchise consulting group in North America). Young sold FRANNET in January 2014 after owning it for 24 years.

Joan worked with one of the premier M&A firm in San Jose for 3 years prior to opening her own Sunbelt office. In 2000, Joan acquired SUNBELT BUSINESS ADVISORS, Greater Bay Area, which is part of the largest business brokerage/intermediary firm in the world. Sunbelt has hundreds of offices worldwide. Joan’s office handles transactions with revenues from $500,000 for Main Street transactions to over $20,000,000 for Mergers and Acquisitions. Her San Jose office has been instrumental in closing over 73% of their listings where the National average is around 21%.

Joan is a member of the California Association of Business Brokers (CABB), has served on their board of directors, and holds the Certified Business Broker (CBB®) designation. Joan also instructs the CABB 101 course for new Brokers in the Bay Area. She also belongs to the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA) wherein she has been awarded the prestigious and coveted Certified Business Intermediary (CBI®) designation and is an active member of The M&A Source.

Joan is known for her professionalism and integrity. Many sellers have commented on her strong ability to problem solve in order to get a transaction completed. She is respected for working cohesively with teams of professionals such as the attorney's accountants and tax specialist to reach the goal of closing the deal.
