Mike is a product of the Roanoke County Public School System. He received is B.A. from Wake Forest University where he played football for the Demon Deacons. Mike graduated from Mortuary School at John Tyler Community College where he proceded to go back to the family business (Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home) after his father and great uncle's untimely death. He chose to further his education at Liberty University where he received his M.B.A. (Master's in Business Administration). Michael is also currently a Doctoral Candidate in Business Administration from Walden University.
Mike is an owner at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home and is highly involved in community activities and organizations. He serves on numerous boards such as CHIP (Child Health Improvement Partnership), Famliy Services of Roanoke, West End Center and etc.. Mike serves as President of the Wake Forest University Roanoke/Lynchburg Alumni chapter, he is a member of the Kiwanis Club of Roaonke and is a member in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, INC. He believes in giving back to the community whereas he is an assistant football coach at Cave Spring High School in Roanoke, Va., serves on the Legislative Advocacy Committee with the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, is a youth director at Bethlehem Baptist Church and is actively involved in communities activities.
Mike is married to Katina Casey Hamlar and has two daughters; Simone and Michal.
