Established 33 years, and licensed in California and Hawai'i, I have been involved in over 330 business acquisition transactions since 1983. Services include business sales, evaluations, expert witness & occasional specialized consulting.
Based in San Diego, my service is unlike many other business brokers. I work with buyers and sellers on a more personal basis, with a primary goal of making the best match possible rather than simply finding a buyer to purchase a business. Instead of working as a "volume" broker, marketing everything possible and selling a few, I take great care in researching and finding the best companies (usually in San Diego County), and bringing them to market. My criteria for "best" are 1) Long-established, 2) In a stable or growing industry, 3) Relatively high profit backed by good records and systems, and 4) Sold for a legitimate reason like retirement, death, divorce and partnership split. Additionally, many companies I market have areas of improvement that do not especially require substantial capital injection or time, rather a different skill set, background, education or training than the outgoing owner has---or simply cannot experience imminent growth because of the lack of working capital to finance receivables.
Having started, bought, operated and sold my own businesses, I can relate to the needs, desires, and frustrations of both buyers and sellers. My personal business experiences combined with a 40+-year professional marketing career have given me the insight to understand and work through the challenges of buying or selling a company.
I conduct business as an independent business broker and intermediary. After earning a BA in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, I worked with Xerox Corporation for several years in sales, sales management, and ultimately was a National Sales Trainer based in Rochester, NY. Before becoming a Business Broker, I owned and operated 7 of my own businesses. After being successfully associated with two major brokerages in San Diego, I have worked as an independent broker since 1992.
My philosophy and method for helping buyers and sellers attain their life goals, developed over my 25 years of selling companies, and my own personal business experience, have proven to be successful. I have excellent referrals from both buyers and sellers, and my 29-year career is completely unblemished.
SELLERS: Selling your company involves great confidentialty, marketing experience, good judgement, discretion and dedicated attention. Being independent and an individual rather than a large company, I can provide one of the greatest benefits to you as a seller: I understand your needs and concerns. Your important business or personal information does not become lost or accidentally disseminated, nor do I have employees to mistakenly mention the sale of your company to others. Because I normally market only a few businesses at a time, my focus is intense on any company I agree to market, and I am dedicated to your goals, your company's future and your employees' well-being. One of my most important personal goals is to find the best possible match for your company. However, because of my broad referral and international contact base, it is not uncommon for me to provide immediate qualified interest in your company.
BUYERS: Purchasing a company involves a great deal of care finding the right business for your education, experience, finances, ability, needs and specific skill set. It is important, if not critical, to find the best possible match, instead of a fast deal. If I do not have a business suited to you, I may be able to find one specifically for you. In any case, I strongly believe that there is no substitute for going through the necessary steps to properly make the right purchase.
