John Schmid is the owner and manager of Summit Business Brokers, Inc. He has over 35 years experience as a business banker, management consultant and commercial real estate investment and mortgage broker. Prior to founding Summit, he was affiliated with Sunbelt Business Brokers of Beverly Hills. He received his BA and MBA from the University of Southern California and is a licensed real estate broker. He received the Certified Business Intermediary designation from the International Business Broker Association in 2007, and the Certified Commercial Investment Member designation from the National Association of Realtors in 1994.

As a business broker, he has successfully represented the sale of an FAA repair station, a manufacturer of architectural details and a national distributor of fire department communication equipment and other businesses. John has advised entrepreneurs and corporations on business start ups and dispositions in a variety of industries, such as entertainment, food processing and real estate.

After serving as a Marine Corps officer, John joined Citibank where he completed their prestigious account officer training program. After several years of corporate finance experience, he was hired by the Rockefeller Group, Inc. to advise it on the acquisition and disposition of the family’s varied real estate, manufacturing, entertainment and petroleum subsidiaries. John was a successful investment real estate broker in New York when he was asked by the Resolution Trust Corporation to manage the disposition of California commercial properties acquired from failed savings and loans. In this regard, John negotiated the sale of over 150 properties totaling over $100 million. In recent years, he has used his marketing and negotiating skills to sell large commercial properties, for example a 250,000 sq. ft. office building in San Jose which sold for $50 million. When the Los Angeles Unified School District began acquiring properties for its historic $10 billion building program, it asked John to develop procedures and manage some of the initial acquisitions. Also, he has owned and developed several successful rental properties for his own account. John has a strong analytical background and can relate historical financial results to the requirements of investors and future business operators.

John and his wife, Susan, live in Pasadena and enjoy many of its recreational and cultural activities. He is a member of the California Association of Business Brokers and the International Association of Business Brokers. John is active in the Rotary Club of Los Angeles, and currently serves on its Board of Directors and is responsible for the Club’s annual fund raising activities of over $200,000.

Summit Business Brokers, Inc. provides a method to enable owners of privately held businesses in Southern California with an exit strategy. The first step is to estimate the value of the business in today's market. If Summit and the owner agree on the valuation (and an over priced listing serves no useful purpose), then the next step is to design a marketing program. Summit employs a number of marketing tools, including national and international web advertising, contacting potential strategic buyers, cooperation with other business brokers, contacting buyers already in the market for a business, and contacting institutional and private equity buyers. Every effort is made to respect the seller's confidentiality requirements. Once a buyer is identified, Summit assists with negotiating the best price and terms possible. Summit can also assist with arranging financing through its contacts with SBA and other lenders. The escrow closing is coordinated by Summit in order that the documents, clearance of liens, and other details goes smoothly.
