What are pro's and con's of wholesale distribution of durable goods?

I want to get into the wholesale distribution of durable goods. Particularly in the flooring industry but don't know the pro's and con's of getting into that sort of business. I know the upfront cost is high due to inventory but what should I expect in ROI? Is buying a pre established business better than a start up? I have no experience in it, just interest. What else should I have?

Chad, you could write a book about such questions. The best thing to do is to select the item you want to distribute, largely because you know something about it and feel there is a continuing and growing demand, then write a detailed Business Plan to address your questions. This means you doing the research, not second hand, free advice from people whose levels of expertise are largely unknown.
