All of the methods you said are good and do work. But the best businesses are the ones that are not for sale. Determine the type of business you would like to buy and start taking business owners out to lunch. Don't ask them if there business is for sale but tell them that you're looking to buy a business "like" theirs and you would like to ask them a few question about what you should look for when considering that type of business. We've done this for a number of years and this is how we have gotten our best referrals and best deals on a business.
