Don,

There are many online businesses or virtual operations that fit this criteria. Today even most franchise systems can be run and operated remotely given the level of real time information you have through online portals. We always recommend finding a business that is in an industry you have experience in since this will add to your success. What is background and what types of operations have you managed in the past? Do you prefer a distributor, wholesaler, service, information technology, b2b? It is helpful to have a buyer profile and target criteria sheet when you’re searching for the right business especially if you’re looking to move fast. Please contact our office at 617-945-5338 to set up a confidential buyer consultation.

Don,

I have a software company I am considering selling. 2009 cash flow is 125k.
The business can be run remotely and takes about 10 hours a week. This is not a .com or drop-ship Internet company... we supply a software product used for business efficiency. I can be reached at philt7@yahoo.com
Thanks.

Hi Don, if you want to run a business remotely and check on it from anywhere, have you thought about a web based business?

Don,

The advise these guys below me are giving you is excellent. Don't try to run a business absentee. Not a good idea.

Word to the wise: Never EVER figure on operating a business that has a lot of cash involved, if you are an absentee owner. The cash goes right out the door. And food is terrible as well. As Jason says, kids running it are death to a business like that. If the money is not the issue, you can still figure on them giving out free meals to every friend they ever had!

Hi Don - In my experience, the business owners that are successful are involved in the daily operations of the business. Running a business on an absentee basis can be dangerous if you don't have reliable help. I have a local pizza place that is run absentee. The place is run by teenagers, and it shows. Service is poor, the place is overrun by the teen friends of the workers (who just hang out at the counter).

If you are going to sink $150K in the business, how will you ensure that your investment is being protected if you are not there to monitor it? Perhaps some sort of online venture would be preferable for you?
