Wow! Powerful responses! I appreciate your feedback- of course no malice intended. Women business brokers comprise only 10% of our industry and yet own 50% of all businesses (most much smaller than businesses owned by men). Ever wonder why? I have not had the same strong feedback from women, so it is very interesting to get the male perspective. Thanks for your honesty! Best, Julie

I agree with Don. What a disgraceful post. I think it was a cheap, duplicitous way for Ms. White to troll for women business owners. Sorry, but few women business owners are that insecure.

I am sorry, but I question the entire subject of this inquiry? Is it important for a male Broker to only work with male Buyers and Sellers? Is there an Equal Opportunity issue here? It is important for white Brokers only to work with while Buyers and Sellers? Or for a Black Broker to restict himself/herself to his own race? Is it important for a Black Buyer or Seller to only work with Black Brokers?

There are several sides to this question, and neither are valid considerations. It is the legitimacy of the Broker HIM or HERSELF that is of issue.

About 75% of my Buyers and Sellers are foreign-born. Thank God they do not question working with me, who was born in the US and not of their ethnic lineage!

I have worked with women, both on the Buying and Selling side. I do not know of one that would suggest that working with me - I am sorry, I am a male - has been a disadvantage for them.

What year is this?

In my opinion the sex and gender should not be a consideration when you are selling your business.
Besides race and color of the broker should not be considered. See who can perform?
There are good men and women in brokerage industry and there are some bad ones too.
If you are so much concerned about the quality interview some brokers and look into their eyes
and observe their talk. If you are smart you can find out whether this is right person or not.
If he or she corrects you for your mistakes and advises some alternatives. If he or she is a yes man
avoid him or her because he or she will only be interested in getting the listing and you will be happy with the attitude and making fool of yourself.
If interested in finding more the qualities you will expect in a broker or agent send me a separate email.

I hope not. But there aren't that many women business brokers out there either. The ones that I know that have been able to weather the initial wait on commissions and can last are some of the most successful I know of in our industry.
