Investor/ financing question

An associate of ours is interested in buying our restaurant. She might have an investor lined up. What is the typical scenario she should expect as far as what the investor wants in return? (interest, piece of the company, any terms you can think of, etc.) We don't want her to get a bad deal.

How to Buy a Business

Well, it all depends on a host of variables. For starters, how big will the investment be relative to the company? Is he putting in $5k for 1% of the equity? Or $500K for 75%? The more money that's at stake, the more clout the investor has to demand that things be done his way. In contrast, the small investor usually has little say in the matter.

If the investor in this scenario is a pro he will most likely have his own set of criteria for making investment decisions, which will answer most if not all of your questions. However, it's better that your friend work out a starting set of answers to the questions you posted above.

If you give us more detail, we can help a bit more.
