Creative emails, sponsor a weekly bulletin as I am sure your school or church send out every week. AS well monthly non for profit publications are typically very cheap to advertise. Also in some cases barter does work niicely and may allow you to advertise in places you never thought would be possible.

What you need is have your business listed in a local directory, Stay away from PPC they are too expensive for local business and non - effective. What you want is to target your community, you need high placement in search engines and online presence. Don't rush and buy an expensive website either, you don't have to do that. What is needed is a description, images, video, coupon generator, directory that gives you reports on your roi - search localadlink look for an agent in your area - proven to get you on top

That depends on what you are selling. Is it a service or a product? Is it high ticket or low ticket?

If your business is local you should get busy registering it with all the local search engines out there like Google Local Listings, yellow pages etc. I have attached a link to a free article on the subject. It also has links to the main search engine sources.

These all have free options and you can get some serious local business from Google.

Local pay per click can be good as well. It allows you to keep your budget very low and feel your way around. You can spend as little as $5 a day if you want.

Of course that means you need to have a website. But if you are service then your site can be pretty simple and should not cost you too much.

David is right. Networking is great! I would add that hitting the streets and selling door to door is effective for both your business and waistline!!

Jaime, I don't know what kind of business you have, but here are some inexpensive suggestions. Join a networking group. BNI, LeTip and others are a great source of referrals and may run about $1K a year. Direct mailings work just as well and are very inexpensive. Again, without knowing what business you are in, it's difficult to come up with other ideas. Just think about this, at times the most effective way to market and advertise is the one that is least expensive and most direct.
