Hello Stella,

If you are seeking an existing business work on negotiating the best deal and confirm how the business was valued. Push for seller financing or see if they will carry a note. Unless you have great credit and plenty of collateral banks will not want to talk with you. Only 30% of SBA loans were approved in 2009!! If you or partners, spouses, family members or associates have good credit I may be able to assist in your quest to seek money.

Best of luck,

Your best bet would be to buy a business and negotiate seller financing for ~20% and then supplement with an SBA loan. I can assist if you would like, including finding a business to buy or arranging financing. I am an experienced Banker, Merrill Lynch, that now arranges financing for small and mid-size businesses, as well as, helps people buy and sell businesses. There is no charge, no obligation for my service to arrange financing; paid by lender as a referral fee.

It will take some work and structuring but it's possible.

You will need some money down and/or have a hard asset to back a loan. Be wary of loan companies who say they can get you financed. The terms would be so egregious it would not be worth it. Upfront fees, very high interest, and clauses like you will owe them 5000 if they can find you a loan regardless if you accept it or not (small print a saw on a loan application a few years ago.)
You have to put up something (money, real estate, and never ending hard work and sacrifice) to own your own business. That is what seperates us business owners from corporate executives who don't have the money, the guts or the work ethic to OWN their own business.
Being a woman might help you to get a loan BUT you will need something to show a bank or an investor that you are serious.
I do wish you luck but anyone who tells you the American dream is free is full of..................
Do you have any rich relatives?
