Greetings from NCVS, or Nav Chetan Vikas. India
NCVS is an NGO in Kasar Devi, Almora, Uttarakhand India, established on March 5th, 2010, according to the Registration No.80/2010 of the society of registration act 1860.
We are excited to start community outreach and education programs relating to the dangers of tobacco use and health risks to the community. We feel strongly towards tobacco awareness, at least one member of this organization has lost a family member to cancer that they personally believe were caused by tobacco use. This problem is a growing epidemic in India, and reports show a sharp increase in tobacco use greater than any other country.
We are working with International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) on Project Axshya since 2010 educating more than 2000 local people from rural areas around Almora district on TB and lung health. We also have worked with the DTC(District Tuberculosis Control) Almora with their RNTCP program.
Our Education program at NCVS has run six computer education centers with more than 1200 students successfully completing training since April of 2010. We also have assisted graduates in finding placement into the workforce. Our six centers are located in rural locations in Almora district strategically placed to increase reach to unprivileged youths, women and SC/ST/OBC students. These students have great ambitions to learn computer skills but would otherwise be unable to, due to the financial burden on their families for regular travel to urban areas. This is why local placement of these centers to minimize travel cost to students is critical to the success of this project in reaching underprivileged peoples.
In addition we are dedicated on fighting for rural development for Children & Youth, Improving Women’s welfare in rural areas, Spreading awareness and educating about public health issues, such as sanitation food handling, HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases, waste disposal, and other environmental issues, many which are serious threats to public health such as pit firing of plastic trash. Social issues and human rights for minorities, Muslims, homosexual, transexual and other gender issues, and treatment of SC/ST/OBC people who have to fight social and political oppression continuously are also great concerns of ours.
We are keen to work closely with you as we have the same goals in helping underprivileged peoples in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India, and hopefully we can collaborate in the future.
We look forward to hearing soon,
Madan Singh Bisht
