You might want to read Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. He talks about how to leverage your money so that it works for you vs. you having to work for money all the time. He buys things that are "assets--things that put money into your pocket every month". He likes multi-level-marketing businesses because it allows you to build an asset that will continue to pay you even after you have stopped working your business.

He also likes rental properties that cashflow money into your pocket every momth. He really likes the
Pre-Paid Legal, Inc. business opportunity because of its great compensation plan and it's product .

You might want to take a look at it. It's not very expensive and you'll get some great tax deductions from running your own business. Good luck.

Kiesha, $5k is not enough to start any kind of business, except maybe a Mary Kay or similar kind of business. And those are extremely labor intensive and depend upon recruiting others, rather than any kind of passive "investment" or conventional business. I don't think this is the place to invest your money.
