I am looking to start or purchase a vending route. Can anyone offer any help or suggestions to avoid pitfalls?

I'm not sure if I should try to purchase an existing route, purchase new machines and try to place them myself or have a locating service help me do that. I'm looking for any advice, suggestions, pros/cons of doing it different ways, companies I can trust and scams/companies to avoid. Thank you for taking the time to read this and answer if you can. I appreciate it.

Just incase any of you are curious, I have read your replies and I thank you for taking the time to answer me.
I think I have done my research, I can't think of any other questions to ask & find answers for.
I have raised some start-up capital and I feel I am ready to get started.
Jon- I couldn't locate your website. I noticed that you left out a . and even when I added that back in I couldn't find it.
Matt- I have heard from numerous people the same thing you said "I loved my vending business". But it's always in the past tense. I wonder, if you loved it, and if it was making you money, why aren't you doing it any more?
Rich- I'm not sure what your friend at Franchisemart could do to help me. I looked at the website and was a bit confused as to why you suggested it. I'm not looking for a franchise to buy into. Is there something specific he could help me with in regard to purchasing/locating bulk vending machines?

Thanks!

Hello Kay, just be sure you understand how hard it is to get locations. Look at the number of machines out there now and will you be able to replace them? One of the most difficult things. i have seen several people with a garage full of machines they couldn't place. If you like driving, look at doing something that doesn't require a lot of inventory of machines and product. Also look at vandalism problems lurking.
Best of luck, Jon

Hi Kay,

One of my favorite businesses was my vending business. I did honor boxes and that grew into vending machines. I would be happy to work with you as a consultant. I'm not a broker and have no interest in anything but your success. Email me back and I'd love to chat with you on my dime.

Quickly...If you have the money, buy the route or the business. Get references from all your locators and NEVER, EVER pay them up front. PERSONALLY visit each location and verify placement. I can tell you more about that.

If you can do the locating yourself, great.

Regards,
