I am investigating oil and gas joint ventures. Has anyone had a positive experience with these deals?

I've found plenty of info about bad experiences and scams. Are there any real joint venture deals that are worth investing in?

Unless you have an endless stream of money and you don't care about losing half or all your investment this may not be for you. I was involved in 3 oil plays and each one failed. But, I know people who have in vested in more and came out a little ahead. Oil plays are a lot like the stock market... some will hit others won't you need to to enough winning plays to balance out the loses. Thus, lot's of money and plenty of hair. Because by the time your done dealing with all the players in the oil business you won't have much left. Good luck!

You really need to understand the business in general and the company in particular BEFORE investing. The scams often didn't start out that way but end up that way after dissapointing results.

You will need to understand the exit strategy, some of which are very long term. Sometimes they just accumulate land leases to re-sell or re-lease to a larger company.

Learn to read the reports, understand what the company is doing.

There are plenty of legitimate ones. Right now "fracking" and other technologies for extracting gas and oil are in development. Look at some of those.

But again, understand the business. That's true for any investment.

I know an attorney that was historically, very successful in such deals. But he was also exceedingly careful, since many are scams and many more had long odds against success. That's why they pay well...when they work.

If you want to duscuss it, give me a call. Don Barrick at 410-715-0700.
