Staging is in its infancy - it was primarily developed to help sell residential homes and apartments, but is expanding beyond the residential market into development properties, the rental market, and into commercial buildings. And now? Whatever is on the market to sell needs to be presented in an eye opening way, i.e staged.

According to www.realestatestagingassociation.com (the national professional staging association), a recent survey of 1,081 homes showed that 1) unstaged homes languished on the market 184 days, 2)after these homes were staged, they sold in 41 days AND 3) homes staged prior to going on the market sold on average in 23 days. That is a serious endorsement for the power of this burgeoning industry.

With the advent of the staging profession in the last 10 years, how property is sold has changed. The seller used to rely on the broker to be all things, both designer and marketer using both the left and right brain. Now the sale of a residence is a team effort - with the staging professional taking on the creative component of fixing up a residence and making sure of a WOW presentation and the real estate professional concentrating on the marketing and selling of the property. This is a win-win-win situation. The seller is able to have a professional give expert advice and hands on experience on the multitude of questions and issues which come up when selling - whether it's dealing with too much furniture, what to paint, calming anxiety over leaving a place, what to do with "parents" furniture after they have departed, etc.
