Business Description

This is a niche advertising business that has been serving retail antique stores and malls in Washington and California for many years. Colorful maps are printed of distinct antique destinations. Clients (antique stores and malls) subscribe annually, pay for a line ad or a more expensive graphic ad, and help distribute the printed maps to shoppers, collectors, and tourists. Clients have high renewal rates and provide new business leads.
Each map (five total, each double-sided) has its own seasonal schedule.
Sales grew in 2015 by almost 8%.
This business would work well as a part-time job or as supplemental income: on average, in 2015, the current owner worked 17 hours a week. This is because there are busier weeks when one or two maps are close to publishing and very slow weeks (perfect for long vacations) when no maps are being worked on.

This is a home-based business that requires very little space inside the home. A decent desktop or laptop, a printer, a shelf for office supplies and a couple shelves for a supply of extra maps, and you're done. (Home Based)
My clients, antique malls and stores, now seek sales through multiple avenues. Yes, the golden age of retail has passed, but so has the golden age of Ebay. Stores do both; retail has its advantages. Marketing supports those sales efforts. Many clients have remarked that, dollar-for-dollar, these maps are their best advertising. There is one direct competitor in CA, and a different competitor in WA. It is not a zero-sum game, though: most stores advertise in both us and the competition.
Growth & Expansion:
Almost all of the existing maps could grow substantially by a concerted sales effort. Also there are opportunities to begin new maps. Several nearby geographic regions -- Oregon, California south of Sacramento -- are not currently served. Prototype maps and client lists already exist. Finally, the Mapbook internet presence could be enhanced. First, adding a regularly updated Facebook page would support client stores and give them added value. The business website could use a facelift.
Support & Training:
Four weeks. More time could be negotiated if necessary -- I want to help you succeed.
Reason for Selling:
Its time to pursue other interests.
